Anyway, I thought this was pretty awesome. Did you know the only albino high fashion model is Chinese?
Meet Connie Chiu. She’s from Hong Kong, but moved to Switzerland because, according to wikipedia, the “sun rays were kinder.” Aww, that’s so sweet of the Sun. I didn’t know it could do things like that.
What I don’t get, though, is how she became a model being 5′6″ tall. I’m 5′6″. But then again, I probably weigh like 50 times more than her.

The thing about being a model is that they aren’t just usually tall, they’re beautiful. I think it’s obvious that Connie’s extreme beauty makes her height (or lack thereof) inmaterial.

as a mother to a person with albinism, i am especially struck by these gorgeous pictures of ms. chiu. my 13 yr old daughter has aspirations to model, she’s the same height and has the same coloring. (maybe a little on the ‘blonder’ side than white) and i’m wondering how ms. chiu deals with nystagmus in her photoshoots. has she had surgery?

I am glad for her. My skin is so pale if my hair were blonde people would think I was albino (I have dark brown hair and very light eyes, go figure).
As for height – well as a former model I can tell you that there is a category known as “petite” modeling. What does this mean?? It means shorter gals can model petite sizes. Kate Moss is of course a petite model. Being 5′11″ I was not in this category but always had respect for those who were.
I think this woman is utterly beautiful. She is so unique and stunning, it’s only natural she would be a great model and role model for others.

there are plenty of models out there that do not meet the 5′7″ minimum height range. These under-5′7″ models are more likely to be catalog/print models than runway models. such famous examples are Bettie Page, Marilyn Monroe, Dita von Teese, Samantha Fox, Leah Dizon, Kaila Yu, Natasha Yi, and Tila Tequila (who is too short to even be a model — 4′11″).
forgot to add: it’s a common misconception that one has to be tall to be a model, unless that person wants to do runway modeling.
