New Goal in Life
March 4, 2008
After the Margaret Seltzer story, I started reading about Monique De Wael and her Misha: A Mémoire of the Holocaust Years which outlined her childhood during World War II and LIVING IN A PACK OF WOLVES.
Though the book was published over a decade ago, it was only this past week that she finally admitted that it was all a lie. Yes, LIVING IN A PACK OF WOLVES WAS A LIE.
And then there’s this whole boring side story about how this story came to be, but Slate is the only one to ask the question, “Why did it take so long for a far-fetched Holocaust memoir to be debunked?”
And apparently, I am the only to ask, “Am I the only one who read Julie of the Wolves?” The story, aside from the Holocaust stuff, sounds straight out of Jean Craighead George’s novel (which, of course, is a work of fiction). Anyone who had read that book would instantly realize how unoriginal this De Wael lady is. I mean, c’mon. At least George set her novel in Alaska, where the only animals worth teaming up with are wolves.
This is inspiring me to tell everyone that I was raised by a pack of wolves, cause obviously the whole world will believe it. I wonder if there’s any way I could incorporate this into my resume.

Haha, I thought that was the real cover at first. A true work of art.
