In Other News…

In other news…I know I rarely write about politics because while I do have personal opinions, I never feel comfortable enough to openly talk about them. I’d rather just listen and read to what others have to say, and then Google all the stats/facts/ideas said to see if it’s true or not. And I already know who I’m going to vote for. I watched Michelle Obama’s speech the other day, which brought shivers down my back but that could have been the over-powering air conditioning in the office. I saw glimpses of Hilary’s orange pant suit which simultaneously did not surprise me and blinded my retinas.

Today I learn that John McCain has finally chosen his VP candidate–and I’m surprised (but not surprised) to see that he has picked a woman:  Alaskan governor Sarah Palin, whom I’ve never heard of before because I didn’t know Alaskans had governors cause they all still live in igloos, right? Just kidding.

Interesting move, right? I can’t help but think he’s trying to one-up Obama’s historical nomination by bringing on a female candidate, as well as try to sway those former Hilary fans. Like, hey, so your goal to set the first female president in the White House didn’t really work out…but how about a Vice-President? Better than some Black guy, right?

Here’s why this won’t work:

As a girl, I must say that I’d rather see a female swearing in as the President, not Vice-President. Cause guess what, McCain, you’re still an old white man who’s gonna be in charge. Just like all the previous men before you. Yeah, pick your token (white) female as your partner but I doubt it will really revolutionize things. It ALMOST feels like when you hear someone try to redeem themselves by saying that they have Black friends. Or their gardener is Mexican. Or that they really appreciate all the wonderful things that the “Philippine Americans” have done, especially when it comes to their personal chef.

Also, Palin is a lifetime member of the NRA. She likes to hunt and fish. She’s a total lezzie. Okay, not really, but WOW, what a lifetime membership to have and cherish. I wonder if she also likes to shoot people in the face by accident.

Better yet, she supports drilling for oil in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge. McCain doesn’t support this, but I just saw that he publicly stated he would “rethink the options” if he had to. AKA, he’s changing his mind.

This is just what we need. A woman in a leadership role that wants to destroy largest protected American wilderness, even though we’re not really sure exactly how much oil is really available. Awwwwwesome.

This makes me really excited for the upcoming election.
